However, even with the minimal upkeep needed, there has been a trend to run to failure and repair to maintain functionality. Repeated repairs over the years can compromise the integrity of the electrical powertrain. Underserved components, such as generators, converters, breakers, switchgear, and transformers, are often overlooked for the necessary modernization efforts to keep them performing beyond their expected lifespan. When it comes time to maintain these assets, many wind farmer operators decide to move away from a contract with a service supplier or self-perform, yet they are often under-educated on the true responsibility of asset ownership.
