How to Make a 3rd Grader an Energy Engineer
Educational Development: How to begin exposing and working with students to build future energy engineers and problem solvers.

We are familiar with the concept of STEM / STEAM, but what does that really look like in K-12 education? This presentation will challenge you to become more informed and involved in K-12 education to encourage and mentor the energy engineers of the future. Learn how as early as 3rd grade you can plant the seed of opportunity and excitement for alternative energy.
Cherri Nix is a second-career educator. After spending 15 years as an executive in the food industry, Cherri turned to education, entering under a provisional certificate. Since her first day in the classroom, she has focused on building student capacity and encourage students to enter STEM focused careers. In 2019, she left the classroom to lead STEM education in Bibb County, located in Macon, GA. She currently holds a Master's degree in Educational Leadership, and a Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She is completing her dissertation to complete her Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Instruction and Higher Education. Cherri additionally works with the National Math and Science Initiative to support and train AP Environmental Science and AP Chemistry teachers across the United States.
